About Me

Cherie St. Cyr is a hand dyed fiber artist who lives on the near east side of Madison, Wisconsin. Her greatest passion is putting color on fabric. “All of my work begins as a bolt of white cloth. I add color using fiber reactive dyes and assorted resists.” As she transforms bolts of white and black fabric into colorful dyed textiles over time, they become amazing fiber art.

The New Orleans native began her career as a silk painter and developed expertise with both direct dye and discharge dye techniques. “I am exploring the interplay of warm and cool as I design and stitch my work.” In the winters, she spends her time staying warm in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where she occasionally works in a ceramics factory designing tiles and plates.
